- For the first time in its 27-year history, KPBS-FM (89.5), the local affiliate of the National Public Radio network, topped the $100,000 mark in its annual fund-raising radiothon, which aired Oct. 24-Nov. 2.

According to Bob Hartley, the station's development director, KPBS depends on listener donations for nearly half of its operating budget. The station broadcasts a mix of news, classical music and Spanish-language programming.
