Local News in Brief : Yorba Linda : Man Preparing for Trip Killed in Freak Accident

November 26, 1987

A 45-year-old man was fatally injured when his car rolled over him while he checked his signal lights in preparation for a camping trip, authorities said Wednesday.

William Eugene Lydon of Yorba Linda died of head and chest injuries at 9:27 a.m., during surgery at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, a spokesman for the county coroner's office said.

Brea Police Lt. Don Rogers said the accident occurred while Lydon was outside his car, testing his car lights. Rogers said a 17-year-old boy, described only as a friend of the family, was behind the wheel of the car, helping Lydon with his test, when he inadvertently ran over the older man.

Rogers said no charges have been sought against the unidentified teen-ager.
