About 100 people were driven into the early morning cold today by a fire that swept through a three-story apartment building near Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and caused an estimated $230,000 damage, authorities said.
Flames were already licking through the roof of the U-shaped building at 3981 Menlo Ave. when firefighters arrived shortly after the 3:28 a.m. alarm, Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said. It took 16 fire companies 48 minutes to control the blaze, he said. No injuries were reported. An arson investigation is under way, he said.
