An intense Pacific storm churned off the coast, whipping up hurricane-force winds in excess of 100 m.p.h. in the Northwest and unleashing rain, hail and more than a foot of snow in mountainous areas. Winds were extremely strong before dawn along the northern Pacific Coast, and high-wind warnings were issued for the coasts of Oregon and Washington state. Along the southern coast of Oregon, steady winds of 105 m.p.h. were reported, and gusts were clocked at up to 120 m.p.h.
