Hotels Offer Discounts

December 06, 1987|JACK ADLER

Hyatt Hotels is offering certificates for room discounts and free food and beverage to guests at 87 of its properties throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean until the end of January, 1988.

The program, called Hyatt NightCaps, offers certificates for future Hyatt visits through Sept. 15, 1988, at any of these 87 hotels. There are blackout periods, and rooms will be provided on a space-available basis.

The certificates are delivered each evening as part of a nightly turndown service. Different awards are given each night on multinight stays. One award per room per night, not per guest. The average value of each certificate is $40 to $50, according to Hyatt.

Awards include a 50% discount off the second night of a future two-night weekend stay, and one free meal--either breakfast, lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch--on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays for each child under 12, accompanied by an adult paying the regular rate.

Other awards include a $50 room credit at Hyatt's newest hotels, which includes properties in Denver and Washington, D.C. You might also get gratis membership for one year in the chain's frequent-traveler program.

Marriott Hotels has launched a different sort of promotion--Marriott Instant Match-Up Vacations, in which guests can win free stays at 18 of the chain's resort properties.

The destinations include Maui, Palm Springs and Marco Island, Fla., as well as Bermuda and Barbados. Stays at Marriott hotels in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Vienna also are winnable.

Other prizes include round-trip coach air transportation on Eastern, Continental or Northwest; Hertz car rentals; breakfasts, lunches or dinners for two, and cash from $50 to $1,000.

Gift certificates worth $5 and $10, which represent the greatest number of prizes, are immediately claimable and usable. The other prizes have to be claimed through a fulfillment center by April 30, 1988, and used by the end of April, 1989.

Guests checking in at more than 150 domestic Marriott hotels get a packet of six scratch-off travel certificates. A prize is revealed by scratching off each half. If you can match any left and right half, you win a prize.

Chances of winning with just one stay are one in 10, according to Marriott. You get one packet per room per stay.

The promotion runs through March 31. Contact Marriott at (800) 228-9290 for more information.
