The United States continued to hold its No. 1 position as the biggest foreign investor in Hong Kong, according to a new Hong Kong government report. U.S. investment in 163 Hong Kong factories totaled $1.03 billion, employed 38,276 people and accounted for 41.2% of the total $2.51 billion foreign investment in Hong Kong in 1986. Japan ranked second with $514 million, or 20.5% of the total, and China was third with $382 million or 15.2%.
The report, the 1987 Survey of Overseas Investment in Hong Kong's Manufacturing Industries, included all known establishments with foreign investment.
