The consolation-bracket championship game of the Beverly Hills High basketball tournament will be an all-Marmonte League matchup as both Westlake and Royal won their third-round games Friday.
Westlake (3-2) scored the first 11 points of the second half and held on to beat Rio Mesa, 61-52. Kurt Schwan led Westlake with 22 points, followed by teammates Bill Fassl and Kevin Logan, who each added 14. Eric Thomas scored a game-high 28 points for Rio Mesa (2-2).
"I talked to them at halftime about switching to a 2-3 zone defense, and it obviously worked," Westlake Coach Greg Hess said.
In Friday's first game, Royal (4-2) breezed to a 74-49 win over North Torrance (1-4). Chris Myers led Royal with 14 points.
