Los Angeles is getting a new park--Wilshire Green--and not only is it free, but the giver, developer Jerry Snyder, has agreed to provide free maintenance.
Located on 8th Street between Masselin and Curson Avenues behind the new $300-million Wilshire Courtyard office complex, the park is to be developed and maintained permanently as private land for public use.
Snyder, founding partner of J. H. Snyder Co., developer of Wilshire Courtyard, said the parkland was originally zoned for housing.
"But, after meeting with the community, particularly Lyn MacEwen Cohen, president of the Miracle Mile Residential Assn., Councilman John Ferraro and Calvin Hamilton, at that time director of city planning, we agreed to develop a park," Snyder said.
Cohen said agreements to maintain the park and to preserve the original design were signed with both the residential association and the city.
