Chris Noyes hit a jumper with three seconds remaining in overtime to give Royal High a 63-62 victory against Westlake in the all-Marmonte League consolation championship of the Beverly Hills tournament Saturday. Westlake's Bill Fassl then missed a jumper from the right corner at the final buzzer as Royal (5-2) won its second tournament consolation championship of the preseason.
"We'll take them any way we can get them," Royal Coach Joe Malkinson said. "We had perfect execution on the inbounds play and Chris just came in and hit a big 15-footer."
Westlake sent the game into overtime when Kevin Logan completed a four-point play by converting a free throw after being fouled on a three-point jumper with 28 seconds remaining.
Royal could have made the overtime unnecessary. On the Highlanders' final possession in regulation, Chris Myers dribbled off his foot as he was driving the lane with four seconds left. Royal also missed the front end of three one-and-ones in the final two minutes.
