NEW YORK — John Ogrodnick's power-play goal with 8:59 left gave the New York Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings Monday night in a National Hockey League game.
Detroit's Gerard Gallant tied the game 35 seconds into the third period on a power play when he took Steve Yzerman's pass from the left boards and beat goaltender Bob Froese with a 10-foot shot from the right circle.
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by David Shaw and Michel Petit, but Detroit made it 2-1 early in the second period on Bob Probert's goal.
Kelly Kisio's tip-in of Jari Gronstrand's shot at 15:59 of the second period put the Rangers ahead, 3-2.
It was Detroit's ninth consecutive loss in Madison Square Garden. Their last win in New York was on Oct. 6, 1981.
