Local News in Brief : Buena Park : Woman Escapes Captor by Jumping From Car

December 16, 1987

A 26-year-old woman was abducted at gunpoint and held several hours before managing to escape her assailant and notify police, authorities said Tuesday.

The woman, whose name was not released, was not sexually attacked in the kidnaping incident Monday afternoon, but Buena Park Police Lt. Bill Cox said the kidnaper did hit her.

The woman told police that a man with a gun surprised her in her living room about 1 p.m. Monday, gagged and blindfolded her, then forced her into his car, Cox said. Police said they believe the gunman entered the home in the 5800 block of Darlington Avenue through an unlocked rear door.

The kidnaper then took the woman to what she told police seemed to be a warehouse, where she was kept tied up, Cox said.

After about four hours, the man put the woman back into the car and drove her away, Cox said. When the car got stuck in traffic, on what detectives believe to have been the Santa Ana Freeway, the woman grabbed the emergency brake, slowing the car down and allowing her to jump out, Cox said. She flagged down a motorist, who drove her to a car dealership on Manchester Boulevard, where she telephoned police.

Police have no suspects and do not believe the woman knew her assailant, Cox said.
