FAA Orders Checks for Crews

December 17, 1987|Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The Federal Aviation Administration, responding to criticism of lax security at major airports, ordered airlines today to require all employees, including uniformed flight crews, to pass through airport security checkpoints.

The directive, which goes into effect Monday, is likely to prompt criticism from pilot and flight attendant unions, which have argued that security can be assured if ID badges of employees in uniform are properly scrutinized.
