Buchanan Wins by Knockout Over Velasquez at Forum

Yogi Buchanan of Berkley, Mo., knocked out Rico Velasquez of San Gabriel at 2:21 of the third round in their scheduled 12-round lightweight bout at the Forum Thursday night.

Buchanan, 21, weighed 135 pounds, while Velasquez, also 21, weighed 134. Buchanan has a 18-5-1 record with 13 knockouts; Velasquez is 16-5 with 11 knockouts.

Buchanan successfully defended his Stroh's lightweight championship.

Jaime Ollenberger of Vancouver, Canada, was scheduled to fight Engels Pedroza of Caracas, Venezuela, in a 12-round bout for the WBC Continental Americas junior-welterweight championship, but Ollenberger was unable to pass the neurological examination.
