December 20, 1987

A 21-year-old Irvine man was stabbed late Friday during a robbery in the 9300 block of Bolsa Avenue in Garden Grove, police said.

The victim, identified by police as Rijk Simdorn, told officers that when he resisted efforts by a man to take $8 from him at about 11:15 p.m., the man stabbed him in the chest.

The suspect, identified by police as John Fields, 18, of Pennsylvania, was arguing with the victim when police passed by while on patrol.

Simdorn was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.

Fields was charged with attempted murder and is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, police said.
