INDIANAPOLIS — Tonya (Teee) Williams made 17 kills, and Hawaii defeated Stanford in four games Saturday night to win the seventh National Collegiate Athletic Assn. women's volleyball tournament.
The championship was the third for the top-ranked Rainbow Wahines, who also took the title in 1982 and 1983. Hawaii recovered from early deficits in the first two games to record a 15-10, 15-10, 9-15, 15-1 victory at Market Square Arena.
Suzanne Eagye scored the winning points in all three games for Hawaii by blocking returns across the middle of the net.
Stanford led, 3-1, in the first game, but Hawaii scored the next five points to take the lead. The game was close until the Rainbow Wahines scored the final five points of the game, including three by Eagye.
