Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi of Finland won a women's World Cup 5-kilometer cross-country ski race at Reit-Im-Winkl, West Germany.

Kirvesniemi was timed in 16 minutes 10.6 seconds, with Raisa Smetanina of the Soviet Union second in 16:22.0 and Marie-Helene Westin of Sweden third in 16:28.9.
