Canada beat the Soviet Union, 3-2, in the third round of the Izvestia hockey tournament at Moscow, marking the first time in 15 years that a Canadian team has won a game in the Soviet Union.

In other third-round matches, Finland downed West Germany, 8-2, and Sweden edged Czechoslovakia, 3-2. Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Canada are tied for first place with 2-1 records. The Soviets and Finland are 1-1-1. West Germany is 0-3.
