False reports that medical evacuation helicopters crashed in at least six states this month have prompted federal and local authorities to investigate the hoaxes, the Pittsburgh Press reported. Hundreds of police, fire and rescue workers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey and Oklahoma searched in vain for helicopters reported down in their areas during the last two weeks, the Press said in a copyright article. Three false crashes were reported Friday. The federal investigation is being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration's Office of Civil Aviation Security, the paper said.
