Cudahy : City Manager Will Stay

December 24, 1987

City Manager Gerald Caton has given the City Council an early Christmas present. Caton, 36, who had said he was going to Hermosa Beach as city manager, has changed his mind and will continue to work for Cudahy. The city manager made his intentions known Tuesday during the city's annual Christmas party.

The Hermosa Beach council unanimously voted last week to hire Caton and expected him to assume his new duties Feb. 1. But Caton said that although the move to Hermosa Beach would have been a career advancement, he didn't want to leave Cudahy "in the lurch."

Caton pointed to unfinished business in Cudahy, including an April election and a current recall attempt against a council member.

Caton resigned as Cudahy city manager in August, 1985, because he disagreed with the council majority on how to supervise employees and oversee a proposed card club. He was rehired a year later after two of the three council members who had disagreed with him were voted out.
