Gary Dotson, the convicted rapist freed from prison in 1985 when his alleged victim recanted, was released from his latest jail term in time to spend Christmas with his family, officials said. Dotson had not been scheduled to leave the Dixon Correctional Center near Chicago until Saturday. Gov. James R. Thompson this week gave Dotson a "last-chance deal" when he modified his 1985 commutation order to allow the 30-year-old Dotson to be released when he finished a sentence for violating parole.
