Out of the Running

December 27, 1987

Pat Schroeder shed a tear on TV when she announced her decision not to run. A lot of people made fun of her for showing emotion at such an important time in her life. They said it showed weakness and an inability to lead in time of crisis.

Those people did not seem to mind that Ollie North cried on the witness stand, telling about such trivial things as using government money to buy leotards for his daughters in a pantyhose shop. People gushed, "What a hero!"
