Top-seeded Pam Shriver routed third-seeded Claudia Kohde-Kilsch of West Germany, 6-4, 6-0, Saturday to advance to the final of a $150,000 women's tennis tournament at Brisbane, Australia.
Shriver faces 19-year-old Jana Novotna of Czechoslovakia for the title today. Novotna downed unseeded Patty Fendick, a two-time NCAA champion, 7-5, 6-1.
Shriver demolished Kohde-Kilsch in 55 minutes, serving six aces. "I didn't do much wrong and when I served a couple of aces in a row, that just put everything away," said Shriver, who has a 2-0 record against Novotna.
At Wellington, New Zealand, fourth-seeded Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union fought off match point and went on to beat Chris Pridham of Canada, 4-6, 6-3, 9-7, to reach the final of the $115,000 New Zealand Open.
