Perry Leads SDSU Women Over UOP

January 05, 1988

Chana Perry's 32 points and 16 rebounds led the San Diego State women's basketball team to a 77-56 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over the University of the Pacific at Stockton Monday night.

Perry made 11 of 22 shots. Teammate Jessica Haynes had 13 points and 22 rebounds for the Aztecs (8-2 overall, 1-0 in the PCAA).

Three-year forward Brooke Meadows, battling a slump, was replaced in the starting lineup by Stephanie Lamar, who responded with a 13-point effort.

Aztec Coach Earnest Riggins was also pleased that his team held Pacific (6-5, 1-1) to 33% shooting. SDSU committed only 18 turnovers, down from a season-high of 27 against Purdue.

"We're a transition team, so we expect to make turnovers," Riggins said. "But you have to be happy when you can keep them to a minimum."

Michelle Sasaki led Pacific with 11 points.
