Katherine Layton, a Beverly Hills High School math teacher, has been named to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The 62-member board, which is headed by North Carolina Gov. James Hunt Jr., will develop a national set of teaching standards. The Carnegie Corp. of New York is providing $1 million in start-up funds.
Layton, of Pacific Palisades, has a bachelor's degree from UCLA and a master's degree in education from Harvard. She was among three California finalists for the 1987 Presidential Award in Mathematics.
