Hollywood : Panel OKs Historic Zone

January 07, 1988

The Los Angeles City Council's Planning and Environment Committee on Tuesday unanimously voted to declare the Melrose Hill neighborhood a historic preservation zone. The proposal will be sent to the council for a final vote in two to three weeks, said committee aide Aram A. Elmassian.

The neighborhood is famous for its distinctive bungalow-style homes built between 1911 and 1926. The zoning designation would give residents a strong advisory role in granting permits for demolition or major renovation.

The area is bounded by Marathon Street and Hobart Boulevard, and Melrose, Oxford and Lemon Grove avenues.
