Phoenix Air Jet Crashes, Killing 2

January 10, 1988|United Press International

MONROE, La. — A Phoenix Air courier jet crashed and burned south of the city's airport Friday, killing the two crew members aboard the plane, sheriff's deputies said.

The twin-engine Learjet flying from Memphis, Tenn., went down before dawn while on its landing approach to Selman Field. It hit and bounced in a farm field and came to rest partially submerged in the Ouachita River.

The plane was carrying packages for Federal Express. Its flight plan listed a two-member crew.

Weather was not believed to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.
