Local News in Brief : Dead Drug Suspect Named

January 12, 1988

A suspect found dead at the scene of a drug raid that led to the shooting death of a county sheriff's deputy has been identified as Edward L. Walker, 20, the county coroner's office said. According to officials, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

One felony count of allowing narcotics for sale has been filed by the district attorney against Dorothy Waters, 41, who was apprehended at the scene, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman Detta Roberts said.

Walker, Waters and a 17-year-old boy were allegedly at a house in South-Central Los Angeles Friday night when the drug raid took place. The ensuing gun battle led to the death of Deputy Jack B. Miller, who was shot in the head, and the wounding of another deputy, John Dickenson. Waters and the 17-year-old were arrested on suspicion of murder, but no murder charge was filed as of Monday.
