Pittsburgh running back Craig Heyward, the nation's second-leading rusher in 1987 and fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy, was arrested after allegedly fighting with campus police investigating a shooting at a fraternity dance.

Police said a fight began with Heyward when an officer placed a hand on the football player's back in an attempt to move him away from the scene. Heyward said the officer poked him in the back with a night stick and then waved it in his face.

Andre Mullings, a 19-year-old Pitt student, was hospitalized in fair condition after the shooting. Marvin White, 19, was jailed on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and criminal trespass.
