Monrovia : Sales Tax Base Increases

January 14, 1988

The city has raised its sales tax base above state and county averages, but it should increase non-retail revenue by attracting more wholesale and industrial firms, says a report on tax trends for 1981-86.

The report, by Robert Hinderliter & Associates, says that since 1981, per-capita retail sales in Monrovia have grown from $5,950 to $9,705 and taxable retail sales have increased 71.5%.

Ten years ago, Monrovia undertook an aggressive redevelopment program, and the greatest growth in taxable sales has occurred in areas where the city has sought new development, the report says.
