Long Beach : Campus Buildings Budgeted

January 14, 1988

California State University, Long Beach, has been allocated a whopping $14.7 million for various new construction projects in the governor's 1988-89 budget presented to the Legislature last week. "We're delighted," said Gene Asher, executive assistant to university president Stephen Horn. "We got what we went after."

Included in the allocation is $12.5 million for a new 92,000-square-foot School of Business building; $185,000 for preliminary remodeling plans on another engineering building; $335,000 for preliminary remodeling plans on the main campus library; $575,000 for equipping a new library on the North Campus; $533,000 for planning a new auditorium and dance facility, and $550,000 for the renovation of existing chemistry labs.

Final approval of the funds, Asher said, depends on passage in the November election of several general education outlay bonds.
