Today is the first day candidates can file for the Long Beach municipal election. Candidates have until Feb. 4 to file in most districts and until Feb. 9 to file in a district where the incumbent is not seeking reelection.
The races will be in Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8. There also will be an at-large election for mayor, this city's first full-time paid mayor. The primary will be held April 12 and a runoff will be June 7.
To register as a candidate in the city clerk's office of City Hall, an applicant must have been a registered voter in the district in which he or she is running since Dec. 14. Those running for mayor must also have been registered voters in the city for at least 30 days.
