BAGHDAD, Iraq — President Saddam Hussein met with Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat on Saturday and called on the Arab world to give Palestinians greater support.

The official Iraqi News Agency said Hussein paid tribute to "the brave uprising of the Arab Palestinian people in the occupied territories" and assured Arafat of Baghdad's support for the PLO, "the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people."

The agency said Hussein called on all Arab governments and bodies to coordinate efforts at a meeting of the Arab League in Tunis next week so they could adopt "tangible" decisions to support Palestinian protests in the Israeli-occupied territories.
