Larger Postal Station Opens in West Hills

January 20, 1988

A $4-million postal station featuring larger quarters and newer equipment opened Tuesday in West Hills. The one-story, 9,000-square-foot concrete block building at 23055 Sherman Way replaces the old Collier Station on Platt Avenue, which closed Friday, said Postal Service spokesman John Conte.

The new station has 950 post-office boxes, four customer-service windows, three drive-up mail boxes and parking for 29 customers. Forty-two employees--35 letter carriers, five clerks, a supervisor and Michael Nartino, station manager--will work out of the station, Conte said.

Officials predict that the new station will deliver about 23.5 million pieces of mail a year to an estimated 22,000 people at 7,020 homes and 1,000 businesses in the 91307 ZIP code area, Conte said.

The station is about a mile from the Collier Station, at 6424 Platt Ave.

The station will have window hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the post office box section open an hour later. The post office box area also will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Conte said.
