THE PREPS : Soccer Roundup : Florek Gives Kennedy 1-0 Win

Mark Florek scored at the 25-minute mark of the second half to lead Kennedy High School to a 1-0 victory over Rancho Alamitos Wednesday in a Garden Grove League boys' soccer match at Kennedy.

It was the fifth consecutive shutout and seventh of the season for the Fighting Irish (9-2-2 overall, 6-0 in league). Jim McConnell made two saves to preserve the victory.

In other Garden Grove League matches:

Bolsa Grande 8, Los Amigos 2--Randy Reynaga scored three goals and Mark Miller and Juan Duarte each scored two to lead the Matadors (4-3-3, 3-1-2) at Los Amigos.

La Quinta 4, Pacifica 1--Jim Brannan scored two goals to lead the Aztecs (7-4-2, 4-1-1) at Miles Square Park. Keith Ashworth scored for Pacifica (3-5-2, 2-3-1).

In the Century League:

Santa Ana 3, El Modena 0--Juvencio Alcarav, Rick Oseguera and Amilcar Calderon all scored first-half goals for the Saints (3-9-3, 1-1-1) at El Modena.

Villa Park 3, Foothill 1--Jeremy Amen scored two goals and Mark Weideman one for the Spartans (3-0) at Foothill.

In the Empire League:

Katella 2, Cypress 2--Chad Rodriguez scored with 10 minutes left to give host Cypress (8-5-5, 0-1-3) the tie. Darren Willis also scored for the Centurions. John Lahmon and Rich Henry scored for the Knights.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 1, Laguna Hills 0--Matt West scored on a penalty kick 25 minutes into the second half.

In the Sea View league:

Newport Harbor 1, University 0--Tom Walker scored 20 minutes into the second half for the Sailors (9-3-2, 2-0-1) at University.

Estancia 4, Corona del Mar 1--Marco Vazquez scored two goals for the host Eagles (11-4-1, 2-0-1). Ed Strong scored for the Sea Kings (2-6-2, 0-2-1).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Irvine 0--Mike Gilmore, Tony Blate and Brent Schofield scored for the host Cougars (14-4-2, 3-0).

In Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 3, Westminster 0--Gerald Kim, Joseph Killy and Derek Mahoney scored for the Barons (8-5-3, 2-2) at Westminster.

In girls' matches:

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 2, Fullerton 1--Chris Dillon and Dionne Bassler each scored for the Raiders (9-4-1, 5-1) at Fullerton. Susie Clampitt scored for Fullerton.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 2, Western 1--Teresa Chunovich scored both goals for the Wildcats (5-2-4, 2-0-1) at Western.

In nonleague:

Orange Lutheran 1, Connelly 0--Laura Hines scored with 10 minutes left in the first half for the host Lancers (1-4-3).
