Jordan and Magic Top Vote-Getters in Fan Balloting for NBA All-Stars

NEW YORK — Guards Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls and Magic Johnson of the Lakers were the leading vote-getters, with more than one million votes apiece, in fan balloting for the National Basketball Assn. All-Star game.

The NBA said Thursday that a record total of 3,352,776 votes were cast, topping the total of 3,200,528 a year ago.

Jordan drew 1,121,890 votes, Johnson 1,022,112.

Joining Jordan in the Eastern Conference starting lineup are guard Isiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons, center Moses Malone of the Washington Bullets and forwards Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics and Dominique Wilkins of the Atlanta Hawks.

Joining Johnson as Western Conference starters are guard Lafayette (Fat) Lever of the Denver Nuggets, center Akeem Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets and forwards Alex English of Denver and Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz.

The remaining players for the 38th NBA All-Star game, which will be played Feb. 7 at Chicago Stadium, will be determined by a vote of the NBA coaches and announced next week.
