If yuppie women sat around saying thank you to Ephron's generation, they would have dropped the ball. Her generation fought the battle for social equality; yuppie women are now fighting for economic equality. Women in their early 20s are studying for college degrees, interviewing for jobs and working their way up corporate ladders to places of parity with males. Yuppie women's techniques may not be as ostentatious as those of the earlier feminists, but that is no reason to doubt our commitment to equality for women. It takes a lot of hard work to obtain the skills to qualify for high--paying jobs, not a lot of rallying and demonstrating.
What better thanks could Ephron ask for than an active attendance to and advancement of her generation's goals?
