January 26, 1988

Micropolis, citing continued strong sales of its high-speed, high-capacity disk drives, said Monday its earnings rose 40% in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 25 to $7.2 million, or 63 cents a share. Sales jumped 55% to $80.4 million in the quarter from a year earlier.

For the year, the Chatsworth company's earnings rose 49% from 1986 to $27.2 million, or $2.40 a share, with sales climbing 35% to $288.3 million.

The company makes hard-disk drives, or devices that read and write data on rigid disks, for such major computer makers as Digital Equipment and Olivetti.
