Local News in Brief : 'Stalker' Trial Delayed

January 26, 1988

A March 22 trial date was set Monday for accused Night Stalker Richard Ramirez as a result of a recent appellate court order requiring the prosecution to supply additional information to the defense.

Ramirez was scheduled to stand trial Feb. 1 in Los Angeles Superior Court, 2 1/2 years after his arrest for allegedly committing a spree of 13 murders and 30 other felonies.

But Judge Michael Tynan ordered the delay because of the state Court of Appeal order, which is being appealed to the state Supreme Court by both the prosecution and defense, that the prosecution must supply records of all crimes of a "similar nature" committed in Los Angeles for a six-month period beginning three months before Ramirez' 1985 arrest.
