San Diego High School Basketball : Hunt Leads Patrick Henry Over Point Loma, 57-34

SAN DIEGO — Collis Hunt scored 15 points and Terrence Hamilton and Greg Edwards added 13 each to pace Patrick Henry High School to a 57-34 victory over Point Loma in a City Eastern League boys' basketball game at Patrick Henry Tuesday night.

Patrick Henry improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in league, where it has sole possession of second place. Point Loma (11-8, 2-2) is tied for third with Mira Mesa.

Patrick Henry opened a 9-0 lead midway through the first quarter and was never threatened. During that span, Point Loma was 0 for 5 from the field and had three turnovers. Point Loma shot 27% (6 for 22) from the floor in the first half.

Bob Brasher led Point Loma with 10 points.

In other City Eastern League games:

Morse 65, Mira Mesa 63 (OT)--Willie Davis hit a 25-footer at the end of regulation for host Morse (10-7, 2-2) to send the game into overtime. Mira Mesa (11-7, 1-3) had trailed by seven at the end of the third quarter. David Lee paced Morse with 27 points.

Madison 59, Serra 54--Jeff Harper, who scored three three-pointers, led four Madison players in double figures. Madison (16-2, 4-0) scored the game's first 13 points. Dexter Springell and Desi Dixon had 14 points each for Serra (6-10, 0-4).

WESTERN

La Jolla 55, University City 54--Sean Rodgers had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead La Jolla (11-6, 3-1).

Clairemont 59, Kearny 54--Clairemont (5-12, 1-3) scored 11 straight points in the fourth quarter. Ray McDavid paced Clairemont with 17 points and 6 steals. Randy Robinson had 24 points for Kearny (15-4, 2-2).

USDHS 42, Mission Bay 36--USDHS made 8 of 8 free throws down the stretch for the upset. John Montali had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 steals for USDHS (5-11, 1-3). Steve Grebing scored 13 for Mission Bay (8-10, 3-1).

CENTRAL

Crawford 79, St. Augustine 73--Lamont Grove scored 12 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter to lead Crawford. Doug Carter scored a season-high 35 points for St. Augustine (5-12, 0-4). Tracy Halton added 18 for Crawford (9-7, 3-1).

Lincoln 97, Hoover 64--Carl Gaines scored 26 points to lead No. 2 Lincoln (16-2, 4-0). Hoover is 2-14 and 1-3.

GROSSMONT

Monte Vista 83, El Cajon 57--Scott Winne scored 30 points, including 6 three-pointers, and added 15 rebounds and 5 assists to lead Monte Vista (8-8, 5-5). Monte Vista outrebounded El Cajon, 53-29. El Cajon (1-13, 1-10) was led by Litho Soloman's 22 points.

Valhalla 40, Grossmont 36--Sophomore Tony Clark scored 13 points for Valhalla (11-5, 9-1). Grossmont stalled the entire game, using the same strategy that helped Mount Miguel defeat Valhalla by 15 last Friday. Lance Williams scored 26 for Grossmont (10-7, 6-4).

Santana 79, Helix 57--Tim Barry scored 22 points to lead Santana (15-2, 9-1) at Helix. Matt Panebianco added 14 points and Stu Back 11 for Santana. Damon Roach had 20 points to lead Helix (11-6, 5-5).

Briefly--Granite Hills 73, Mount Miguel 62.

GIRLS WESTERN

Mission Bay 56, USDHS 33--Christina Willis had 27 points and 11 rebounds as Mission Bay (12-6, 3-1) outscored USDHS, 18-3, to open the game. Bonnie Martin added 11 points and 17 rebounds for Mission Bay.

CENTRAL

Crawford 53, Our Lady of Peace 46--Terri Butler scored 29 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, for Crawford (9-7, 4-0).

Briefly--Christian 44, San Diego 41.

EASTERN Point Loma 62, Patrick Henry 31--Monica Filer scored 24 points and Tyeast Brown 18 to lead host Point Loma (19-1, 4-0). Sue Hawke led Patrick Henry (9-5, 3-1) with 18 points, all in the first half.

GROSSMONT

Monte Vista 68, El Cajon 36--Melissa Smith had 20 points, 5 assists and 5 steals to lead Monte Vista (13-5, 8-2). El Cajon is 4-11 and 2-7.

PALOMAR Mt. Carmel 64, Fallbrook 43--Linda Jones scored 19 points and Kara Warner 16 to lead host Mt. Carmel. Mt. Carmel (15-3, 5-1) outscored Fallbrook, 22-10, in the second quarter. Terri Pearson had 13 points to lead Fallbrook (10-8, 3-3).

Poway 50, Orange Glen 44--Jill Brawner scored 24 points, including 12 during an 18-8 run in the first quarter, for Poway (10-7, 4-2). Orange Glen (11-7, 2-4) cut the deficit to four late in the fourth quarter. Laura Hughes scored 19 to pace Orange Glen.
