Eleanor K. Chow, vice president of the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education, has been appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the state Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The commission, which meets monthly, issues about 95,000 credentials annually to California teachers and administrators. The commission also evaluates and approves teacher training programs at eight University of California campuses, 19 California State University campuses, and 40 independent colleges and universities.
Chow was appointed to fill a vacancy on the 22-member commission and has begun attending meetings pending confirmation by the state Senate, an official said. Her term expires Nov. 23.
