Santa Monica : Zoning Hearings Delayed

January 28, 1988

Public hearings on a proposed citywide zoning plan that would limit commercial growth in Santa Monica have been postponed to give City Council members more time for study.

If approved, the zoning plan would decrease the height and size of new buildings in many commercial areas of the city. It would also require Planning Commission review of some apartment and condominium projects that would not be reviewed under the current zoning plan.

Of particular concern to council members is a proposed regulation that would exempt public property from the plan's building restrictions. Instead of a scheduled public hearing Monday, the council will have a study session on the plan. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1685 Main St., and is open to the public.
