Cost of Revenge

January 31, 1988

Assemblyman Larry Stirling's bill to require public disclosure of costs associated with death penalty prosecutions may not be such a bad idea.

Taxpayers should know the tremendous amount of money spent by the government trying to kill defendants in capital cases.

Once we find out how much it costs to execute a person, maybe the public's thirst for revenge against murderers will be tempered by a realization we simply cannot afford to spend millions of dollars for a few executions.
