Roger Bowker defeated Purvis Granger, 224-189, in the championship game to win the $200,000 Don Carter's Greater New Orleans tournament on the Professional Bowlers' Assn. tour at New Orleans.

Bowker overcame an eighth-frame miss in the title match. Leading by 22 pins, Bowker left a 4-pin and missed the spare, giving Granger a chance. However, Granger left a difficult 2-8-10 split in the eighth frame and failed to convert. Bowker, who earned $38,000, finished with two spares and an eight-count to beat Granger.

Pete Weber opened the finals with a 256-236 win over Scott Monteleone, but Weber was defeated by Tony Westlake, 259-227. Westlake lost to Granger, 248-198.
