Peete Breaks Finger in USC Baseball Game

January 31, 1988

USC quarterback Rodney Peete, who also plays shortstop on the Trojan baseball team, broke the little finger on his right (throwing) hand during Friday's season-opening 4-0 victory at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and will be sidelined from four to six weeks.

Peete, who missed the entire 1986 baseball season after tearing an Achilles' tendon in the Aloha Bowl against Alabama, probably will miss the beginning of spring football practice, which starts in the middle of March.

However, because of his baseball commitment, Peete seldom participated in spring football drills.
