Here's the weather forecast for the weekend: Sunny, then cloudy, then both.
The forecast for San Diego calls for sunshine today, partly cloudy skies Saturday, and morning cloudiness clearing to afternoon sunshine on Sunday, National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.
A weak Santa Ana condition will peak today, resulting in sunny skies and warmer temperatures throughout the county, according to Shigehara.
The Santa Ana will also bring gusty winds to the mountains and deserts, he said, with winds up to 40 m.p.h. expected through this evening.
Wind Advisory in Effect
A wind advisory remains in effect for the mountain areas. Those driving trucks or other large vehicles should be aware that strong winds are expected throughout the day in those areas.
"The coastal and inland areas will be spared (the winds) for the most part," Shigehara said. "We'll be able to enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures from the Santa Ana without having the winds."
The high-pressure system responsible for the Santa Ana is also causing a storm currently 1,200 miles off the coast of San Diego to dissipate, according to Shigehara.
"This storm's got a lot of clouds in it," he said. "There's no rain in it, but the clouds will be reaching us on Saturday."
The clouds are expected to clear out by mid-morning Sunday, leaving a clear but cool afternoon to finish out the weekend, Shigehara said.
Cooling at Coast
"The coast, especially, will feel the cooling," Shigehara said. "While temperatures in other areas will only creep down a couple of degrees, the coastal areas will experience a 10-degree drop over the weekend."
Coastal highs will be between 67 and 71 degrees today, slipping to the 63 to 67-degree range Saturday and the 61- to 63-degree range Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the mid-40s tonight and the low 40s Saturday and Sunday nights.
The surf will be in the 3- to 4-foot range, with an ocean water temperature near 57.
Inland areas will have highs ranging from 70 to 74 today, nudging down to the 68- to 72-degree range Saturday and a couple of degrees more on Sunday. Lows will be in the low 40s tonight, dipping down to the high 30s Saturday and Sunday nights.
Highs in the mountains will be between 42 and 50 today, dipping into the low 40s on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the 20s.
Desert areas will have highs in the 65- to 73-degree range today, slipping a degree or two on Saturday and another two or three on Sunday. Lows will be in the 30s.
