4 Counties Get Disaster Status

February 05, 1988

Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego and Santa Barbara counties and the City of Ventura were declared federal disaster areas by the White House this morning due to the damage caused by a fierce winter storm that swept across the coastline last month.

Business and property owners in those areas will qualify for low-interest loans to repair their property and replace damaged goods under a program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Amy Piskura, a spokeswoman for Sen. Pete Wilson (R-California), said the loan programs should go into effect soon.
