Little Sondheim Music

February 06, 1988

Stephen Sondheim is a poet who writes intelligent, sophisticated show music that is constantly surprising and thrilling the listener. Lloyd Webber is a talented hack who occasionally writes some nice melodies which you can hear coming a few minutes before they actually arrive.

Of course, the hack who writes "purty" songs is going to be more popular and wealthier. Whoever said the masses have taste?
