Henri Leconte was the only seeded player to lose Wednesday as top-seeded Stefan Edberg and second-seeded Jimmy Connors scored opening-round victories in the Grand Prix tennis tournament at Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Unseeded West German Christian Saceanu eliminated fifth-seeded Leconte of France, 6-4, 6-2, in a second-round match.

Connors defeated Jaro Navratil of Czechoslovakia, 6-3, 6-2, and Edberg beat fellow Swede Frode Waern, 6-4, 6-4.

Pam Shriver, seeded second, need only 53 minutes to advance as all of the top players won in straight sets in the Virginia Slims of Dallas.

Shriver beat Marianne Werdel of Bakersfield, 6-1, 6-2. Manuela Maleeva, seeded third, swept Heather Ludloff of Foster City, Calif., 6-1, 6-1. Earlier, No. 6 Barbara Potter ousted Stephanie Rehe of Highland, Calif., 6-2, 6-2.

Shriver, who served eight aces, said she wasn't sure what to expect against Werdel, so she "just ran down the balls and waited for her to miss."

Potter, who will meet the winner of today's Martina Navratilova-Larisa Savchenko match, had little trouble.

"I wasn't too worried about her serve and volley," Potter said of Rehe, who has slipped from 13th in the world to 27th because of injuries. "She should have done a little more, but Rehe's more a baseline player."
