Fortunately for the Harvard High basketball team, its last game of the regular season was played against the team at the bottom of the league standings--a team with just one win this season and a team the Saracens beat by 47 points in their previous meeting.
Otherwise, Harvard might be starting the off-season today instead of playing in a tiebreaker game to determine whether it advances to the playoffs.
The Saracens shot just 40% (21 of 52) from the field but eked out a 65-58 Santa Fe League win against Pater Noster on Friday night at Cathedral High, breaking a three-game losing streak.
"Nothing's been easy lately," Harvard Coach Greg Hilliard said. "We were just able to hang on to win."
Harvard (11-9, 9-5 in league) finished league play tied with Chaminade and will play the Eagles at 2 this afternoon at Faith Baptist High to determine the league's third-place team. Chaminade (14-9, 9-5) defeated La Salle, 73-45, to maintain the third-place tie.
