The Eclecticist

February 14, 1988

Congratulations to KMPC-FM (the new 102) for upgrading the quality of its playlist. For current popular music, it now ranks close to KROQ in consistency of excellence and high consciousness, mainstream radio division.

I'm 45, and I can enjoy aspects of New Order, ZZ Top, the Smiths, Squeeze, Metallica, Janet jackson, Ozzie Osbourne, the System, Rush, Prince, Tears for Fears, Grand Master Flash, the Pogues, Europe, Kate Bush, They Might Be Giants, Sinead O'Connor, TSOL, Sting, REM, Simple Minds, UB40, the Clash, Bob Marley, Van Halen, etc., equally well.

Eclecticism is the only true test of those who really understand and love music and its meaning. Anyone unwilling to hear and acknowledge the merits within any genre of music (classical, jazz, country, blues, folk and so forth) is desperately in need of help.
